Diabetic patients must have full control over what they eat, simple mistakes on their plate can increase blood glucose unexpectedly, there are recommended diets for diabetes that help their body to control blood glucose and have good adherence to their regimen.

Uncontrolled blood glucose is associated with many complications, so it's good to maintain your blood glucose to a normal level by following all medical advice and recommendations and following all nutritional recommendations.

According to WHO, In 2019, diabetes was the ninth leading cause of death with an estimated 1.5 million deaths directly caused by diabetes. Diabetes causes many complications including heart attacks, kidney failure, stroke, foot ulcers, lower limb amputation, etc,,,,.

WHO says: that a healthy diet, regular exercise, maintaining a healthy diet, and avoiding tobacco and alcohol use can prevent you from diabetes mellitus type 2.

There are different food, diabetic patients should eat in their daily food as these food help their body to control an increase in blood sugar.

1. Fruits and Vegetables

Green vegetables must take a large portion of diabetic people's daily plates, as green vegetables are packed with minerals, vitamins, and nutrients, Green vegetables contain fibers and low sugar, and they can not skyrocket glycemia.

Fruits and vegetables include Avocadoes, spinach,  broccoli, carrots,  grapefruit, cherries, apple, green pears, etc ,,,,,,,

2. Food containing Proteins

Proteins are essential nutrients for diabetic patients, proteins help the body to build and strengthen muscles, by consuming proteins your body gets stamina and good nutrient needed.

Food containing proteins include lean meat, beans, lentils, Tofu, fish, dairy products, eggs, etc,,,, 

3. Non Fat or Low-Fat dairy products

Dairy products include Whole milk, Yogurt, and Cheese, which are also good sources of protein, fats are not good for a diabetic person, so it's good to consume a low or non-fat diet, recommended oils are oils extracted from plants such as olive oil, avocado oils sunflower oil etc...

4. Whole Grains

Cereals are a good source of different nutrients needed by the body including fibers and carbohydrates for energy.

Consuming food-based cereals is a good thing but don't consume too much as their rich in sugar.

5. Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are safe to be consumed in moderation to diabetic patients, sweet potatoes are rich in fibers and have a lower glycemic index, which results in a less immediate effect on blood glucose.

There are  different food you must avoid as they are bad for you, by consuming them your body will remain in an uncontrolled glycemic state, those food includes
  1. Processed food
  2. Fruit Juice
  3. Fried food
  4. Alcohol
  5. Sugary /Sweeteners
  6. Carb Rich food


As a diabetic person, you have to control what you consume, eating disorderly have a great impact of your inability to have controlled blood glucose 

The 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommended that  while preparing your food ,you have to focus on these 3 categories 
  1. Carbohydrates – 45 to 65% of your daily calories *
  2. Protein – 10 to 35% of your daily calories
  3. Fat- 20 to 35% of your daily calories
All categories of food must be included in your daily food , with poor nutritional habits associated with an unhealthy lifestyle, your body's ability to control blood glucose will deteriorate  , with uncontrolled glycemia you're more exposed to severe complications.
